Basic Home Repairs Illustrated focuses on the type of repair that demands fixing right now—leaks in plumbing, leaks in roofs, locks that will not work. It also deals extensively with repairs of long-term annoyances—squeaking floors or stairs, stuck windows, peeling wallpaper.
In every case the text assumes that you have never attempted such a repair in your life. As a result, the instructions will seem kindergartenish in those cases where you have some practical experience. We beg your indulgence in remembering that everybody faces each problem for a first time, so, somewhere, someone else will bless the thing you find too simple and grumble about one that makes you glad.
