Because saving energy is of national importance, federal and state governments are pitching in to make energy- oriented home improvements easier for homeowners. To find out about federal support, call the nearest office of the Energy Research and Development Administration. And, many states have incentive measures worth exploring. For information about state support, try your state’s public utilities commission (some have an energy conservation unit). Also check with your utility company. Some utilities offer services ranging from free information and professional advice to energy-improvement loans.
